Critiquing Photo Challenge

Descriptive: This image was only taken so I could show my friend that I liked the pillows that the store had and what they looked like. There is no other purpose behind the picture.
Explanatory: This image is used to show how to use the leg press machine.
Interpretative: This image is interpretive because if you did not know about the current events of the US, it would just seem like a regular celebration for the 4th of July. However if you are more into politics and current events you would be aware that many people are against the celebration, which is why it is interpretive to each viewer.
Aesthetically Evaluative: This image was made to be aesthetically pleasing to the viewer, with the large background in view with the parking lot and skyline but also with the subject off center.
Ethically Evaluative: This is an ethically evaluative picture as it has a much deeper political message behind the picture, including the events of Tiananmen Square and the greater current events of the time.
Theoretical: This image is theoretical as it showcases something that is not typically the main focus of photography, the actual process of the picture. We typically see the final product, not what the photographer is seeing as they take the picture.
This would be my most successful image as I believe there are many parts that make it an aesthetically pleasing image. You can see the sky in the upper third of the picture, as well as the spanning parking lot and even the lines of the railing. The most difficult part of this assignment was trying to fit the pictures into these distinct categories, as many pictures can fit into multiple categories at once. In the future to create stronger pictures I will try to determine what I want to convey with each picture and specifically determine what I am trying to capture with each picture in order to make sure my point gets across.

I really like this image and how even though it's an explanatory image, it could fit into other categories such as descriptive and aesthetically evaluative. The picture is very clear and the colors are very vivid as well which make it a very engaging picture.
